I’ve just stepped off a flight from the UK after spending two and a half brilliant weeks back home. Right now, I’m sat in Munich airport in Germany, waiting to catch the first of three trains that’ll get me back to Mayrhofen in Austria (where I live). With a bit of time on my hands, I thought it was the perfect moment to sit down and finally write about something pretty exciting. The fact that I’m trekking to Everest Base Camp in Nepal this November.
This is one of those proper bucket list adventures. The kind you dream about but don’t actually expect to happen. Then, last December, I spotted a post on Instagram from a Liverpool-based company (my hometown) called Adventure Code. They were organising a trip to EBC for this year, and in classic Zoe fashion, I dropped them a message around 11pm one night and sent over my deposit without giving it too much thought.
At that point I had never met these people before, however, how can you go wrong travelling with a bunch of scousers. The best type of people I could be going on this trip with. I actually got to meet some of them on my recent trip to the UK and it was proven that it will be an adventure to remember.
In this article I am going to share more with you about what Everest Base Camp is, who Adventure Code are and the community organisation I am raising money for (Happiness For All CIC).

WHAT IS EVEREST BASE CAMP?
EBC (Everest Base Camp) is a staging point of climbing to Mt. Everest peak. I’ll be trekking to the South Base Camp in Nepal, which sits at 5,486 metres above sea level. For a bit of perspective, the actual peak of Everest towers even higher at 8,848 metres!
Most people begin the trek somewhere between 2,600 and 3,400 metres, so the climb up to Base Camp involves gaining around 2,000 to 2,800 metres in elevation. It’s an iconic hike, tucked away in the heart of the Himalayas, and it shows off jaw-dropping views, a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and an amazing insight into the local culture along the way. The trek to Everest Base Camp usually takes around 12 to 14 days. It can be a challenging hike with the high altitude but offers breathtaking moments in return.
EVEREST BASE CAMP WITH ADVENTURE CODE
We’ll be tackling the Everest Base Camp trek over 12 days, starting from Lukla at 2,886 metres. The highest point on the journey is Kala Patthar, reaching 5,545 metres, which we will conquer the day after arriving at Everest Base Camp itself, sitting at 5,486 metres. There are 16 of us from Liverpool who will be spending 17 days together. as that is the length for the main part of the stay. A few of us are extending the trip by four days to experience a local safari and I couldn’t think of a better way to round it off.
Plus, before and after the trek, we’ll have the chance to explore the vibrant cities of Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur, adding even more colour, culture and excitement to the whole experience.

RAISING MONEY ON MY TREK TO EVEREST BASE CAMP
Going to Everest Base Camp isn’t just for me to tick off another bucket list adventure. I will also be using it to raise money for an incredible organisation called Happiness For All CIC.
They have an incredible mission of supporting people (especially children and young adults) by helping them build emotional resilience and understand how to manage their mental health. In today’s world, where so many pressures affect young people, I believe it’s vital that they are equipped with the tools to process their emotions and navigate challenges. Having struggled with poor mental health myself in the past, this cause is close to my heart. By supporting this cause, I hope to contribute to a future where mental health support is accessible and effective for all.

WHO ARE ADVENTURE CODE?
Adventure Code is a Liverpool-based community that brings people together through guided mountain hikes, UK-wide group walks, international expeditions, and retreats. They’re all about fostering connection, whether it’s making new friends, tackling challenges, or simply enjoying the great outdoors.
From local hikes to big adventures like Everest Base Camp, Adventure Code offers something for everyone, along with an academy for training and a membership for those wanting to dive deeper into the experience. Having met them recently I am ever more excited to head over to Nepal in November for the trek to EBC.
